Facebook, Whatsapp, and Instagram suffered an outage in India and across the globe the last Friday night. A lot of users were unable to send or receive messages. Some users also reported that they failed to even log into the Whatsapp Web.
As per the report by the Downdetector, the issue started at around 10:40 PM in India and prevented Whatsapp users from sending or receiving messages on the service for more than an hour. Moreover, Whatsapp is claiming that the service was only down for 45 minutes.
While on the other hand, the company did not reveal the exact reason, it did assert that there was some technical issue. “Earlier today, a technical issue caused people to have trouble accessing some Facebook services. We resolved this issue for everyone, and we apologize for any inconvenience,” a Facebook spokesperson said in a report.
Apart from Whatsapp, Instagram and Facebook were also not working for many users. According to the popular downtime reporting service, more than 28500 people reported the issues with Instagram and around 34127 users were witnessing problems with WhatsApp.
The report also suggests that around 49% of the Whatsapp users were facing challenges with the connection, 48% of people were unable to send to receive messages on the platform, and 2% were not able to log in.
Downdetector also showed that around 57% of Facebook users reported about the total blackout, and 29% were not even able to access the social media application. Around 66% of the Instagram users were not able to access News Feed as well as its official website. In case you are not aware, Downdetector is a site that monitors the outages by collating the status report from the users and some other cited sources.
Apart from that, this not the first time that the services have been impacted. In the month of December 2020, Whatsapp went down alongside Facebook and Instagram for a few hours before the services were restored.
